Dutyholder and Responsible Person Support

Having a suitable and sufficient risk assessment and a written scheme of control are legal duties.  Risk assessment is the starting point and if this is insufficient it will compromise all aspects of legionella control.

Many legionella risk assessment and control contracts are awarded on price.  How can you be sure your contractor is delivering what you need?

Achieving the right level of competence in your organisation can be challenging.  Reliance on contractors will not keep you out of court if the worst happens.

If you need support with writing policies or procedures, written schemes, unbiased technical support, choosing the right service provider, or if you want to develop in-house capabilities; we can help.

Contractor Management and Procurement

If you have responsibility for outsourcing legionella risk assessment or control contracts are you able to:

  • Tender a compliant specification

  • Write a tender with enough information to get a cost effective contract

  • Ask technical questions to challenge bidders

  • Evaluate technical responses and be sure of the best bidder

When a contractor is in place are you sure you are getting risk assessment reports and control work that is suitable and sufficient? We can help:

  • Auditing of contractors on your behalf

  • Technical challenge to contractor output

  • Using risk assessment output to help you develop compliant written schemes and prioritise resources

Complex Risk Assessment and Incident Investigation

We regularly carry out risk assessments for complex systems where Service Providers may not have the in-house capability, experience or confidence to do this themselves.

Part 3 of HSG274 covers some common systems but in reality every system is unique and must be assessed from first principles.

When the guidance in HSG274 or other similar documents does not solve a persistent or recurring issue we are sometimes asked to investigate.  Forensic sampling techniques and system risk analysis is used to find the root cause of the issue and recommendations are made for resolution.

We have extensive experience with legionella issues in hospitals, office buildings, universities, schools, military barracks and industrial premises.
